100m Back and Free

Fastest times of the day in the 100m event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas were recorded by Island Games swimmers Thomas Hollingsworth and Courtney Butcher – 53.66 and 58.52 respectively.

The youngest age group (9 years) saw Gabrielle Wilcox Oliver Graham take the honours in 1.31.95 and 1.36.81 respectively, while the 10 year olds saw Xander Graham set personal best touching in an impressive time of 1.22.62. The 10 year old girl’s title went to Oriana Wheeler in a personal best by over 2 seconds to post 1.19.69.

Sze Ching Chung and Pip Gallagher had a close battle for first in the 11 year age group, with Sze Ching just getting the touch in 1.16.31 ahead of Pip in 1.16.99. John Welbourne was a clear winner for the boys in 1.15.81.

Max Gill had a great swim in the 12/13 age group to take the title in a personal best of 1.06.76, with Tatiana Tostevin scoring maximum points for the girls in the same age group with 1.07.64 improving on her entered time.

Will Russell looked strong in the 14/15 age group hitting the wall in 59.96 as did Orla Rabey for the girls with a personal best time of 1.04.22

Marcus O’Neil, Tim Lowe, Nick Moss and Jo Winberg each won their respective age groups in the Masters section
There were some enormous improvements in times throughout the age groups with Louise Madden in the 14/15 year age group showing the greatest improvement in time by over 10 seconds recording 1.19.77
In the 100m backstroke event, Thomas Hollingsworth smashed his own championship record in the 16 and over age group to touch in 56.73 to record the fastest time of the day for the men. Courtney Butcher was again the fastest of the girls in 1.06.34

The 14/15 boy’s title went to a great swim from Will Russell, who improved by nearly 2 seconds posting 1.06.65, Orla Rabey taking the girls event in 1.15. 63 – Another brilliant personal best by nearly 3 seconds!

Tom Stapley took the touch from Max Gill in the 12/13 age group, recording 1.17.88 gaining great advantage from his explosive start. Sophie Wilcox improved on her personal best to post 1.11.85.

Sze Ching Chung and Jake Williams swimming for the 11 year olds both finished in first place recording 1.26.79 and 1.25.33.

A good technical performance, resulting in an excellent time of 1.28.41 saw Maddy Russell win for the 10 year old girls. Xander Graham – a clear winner for the boys in 1.33.62.

The nine year old titles went to Lauren Varley and Oliver Graham, competing in this event for the very first time, who posted great times of 1.44.37 and 1.50.44 respectively.

The backstroke winners in the various Masters age groups were; Marcus O’Neill, Tim Lowe, Nick Moss and Jo Winberg.
