Summer National Swimming Championships

Three Barracuda swimmers had a busy summer competing at various national swimming championships.

Up and coming talent, Zach Maiden, was recognised for his distance swimming by the region early in the year and was invited on the distance talent programme. After experiencing some open water swimming on his training camp Zach was invited to compete in the 3km Open Water National event where is produced an amazing bronze medal in his age group. The following week saw Zach invited to the GoCardless Swim England Summer National Championships to compete in no fewer than 6 individual events! Zach produced solid swims and personal bests in his events after stepping up to his first national competition. His outstanding swim of the meet came in the 800m freestyle where he placed 7 overall and produced a massive 12 second personal best time.

Oriana Wheeler, who is now studying at Swansea University was in action at both the British National and the Welsh National swimming championships. The Guernsey Island Games gold medallist in the 400 IM swam her favoured events of 400m IM and the gruelling 200m Butterfly taking 20th and 16th place respectively at the British Championships. At the Welsh Championships she produced a silver medal swim in the 200m IM and in the 100m butterfly after placing 4th in the heats she dropped 2 seconds in the finals to take the bronze medal. She also placed 6th and 8th place in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
