Amazingly 7 new records were broken in the first event of the 2016 Specsavers Series – the 50m freestyle, staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club.
First record to fall was in the youngest age group – 9 years, where Raif Carre obliterated the record set way back in 2002 by Joshua Lewis. For fourteen years, the record had stood at 38.09, but now stands at 36.40. Also swimming inside of this old record was second placed swimmer Conor McKenna who touched in a great time of 37.82.
Another long standing record was broken in the 12/13 years age group by Tatiana Tostevin who recorded a brilliant time of 29.47.
Swimming the fastest time of the day and breaking her own record was Courtney Butcher who placed first in the 16 and over age group in 26.98.

There was an excellent win in the 16 and over age group for Courtney Butcher in the 400m individual medley event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club. Looking strong throughout, and taking advantage of her technical skills in all four strokes, she touched in 5.12.18. The fastest swim of the day from the men coming from Oliver Nightingale who recorded 5.13.68.
It was left to the Barracuda Masters to produce record breaking times, with David Aslett and Richard Nash, both finishing inside the previous mark in their age group, touching in 6.04.69 and 6.51.93 respectively. Peter Frankland gained maximum points in his age group posting a great time 6.03.80,

Tatiana Tostevin (12 years) Orla Rabey and Sophie de la Mare both 14 years and Annalise Munro were all in record breaking form as they finished inside the championship age group records in the 800m Championships staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club.
Improving on her personal best by over 51 seconds and breaking the record by 2 seconds, Tatiana posted a great time of 11.03.54. Orla also obliterated the record in the 14 year age group to set a new mark of 9.42.20. Also finishing inside the record and having to settle for second place was Sophie de la Mare with a great time of 9.43.75.
Fastest time of the day overall went to Annalise Munro in 9.28.29 which was also a new record. Ailish Rabey won the youngest age group for the 11 year olds in 11.40.52 which was a Hampshire County base qualifying time.
The victor in the Masters section was Jacqui Hunt in another record time of 11.18.76 1500m

Courtney Butcher produced a lifetime short course best of 2.24.55 in the 200m individual medley event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club and in so doing set a new Championship record, the previous set in 2001, by Gail Strobridge.
Also setting a new mark was Xander Graham in the 10 year age group who had a great swim of 3.17.42. His brother Oliver who won the 9 year age group for the boys, just missed the record in his age group by hundredths, to touch in 3.36.85.

Annalise Munro recorded the fastest time of the day in the 400m event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club, posting 4.36.71. Fastest time of the day from the boys was from Will Russell who touched in a great personal best by over 17 seconds – 4.29.02.
7.13.22 earned Gabrielle Wilcox, the gold medal in the 9 years age group. This was the first time that she had competed in this distance and looked technically strong. In second place was Sze Lam Chung also in an excellent time of 7.16.50. The boys 9 years title went to a brilliant effort from Jack Dowinton who touched in 7.30.55.
In the 10 year age group, the victors were Oriana Rabey and Rory McKenna who recorded 6.12.13 and 6.19.72 respectively, with both improving on their personal bests by over 59 seconds!
Ailish Rabey – 11 years, pulled out all the stops and took the title from Pip Gallagher in 5.31.46. The boys in this age group had a good race with Jake Williams holding on to the lead from Peter Birch, to finish well clear in 5.49.79 – over 24 seconds better than his entered time.
Sophie Wilcox and Tom Stapley were the victors in the 12/13 age group and touched in 5.05.46 and 5.03.92 respectively.
Orla Rabey secured the 14/15 title with 4.53.19, with top time in the 16+ age group going to Tom Hollingsworth.
There were some huge personal best times throughout the age groups with the Barracudas really rising to the 16 length challenge. The Masters were no exception with Ian Hubert, Jacqueline Hunt,
William Ferguson, Jennifer Roussel and Nick Moss winning their age groups. The age group swimmer showing the greatest improvement was Jemima Green in the 10 year age group who improved by over 85 seconds!

Courtney Butcher and Will Russell continued to look strong in the 200m breaststroke event of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Specsavers Series recording the fastest times of the day – 2.56.61 and 2.40.20 respectively.
In the youngest age group – 9 years, Oliver Graham held on to his stroke to touch in 4.11.70 well clear of his nearest rival. The girls’ title went to a great swim from Gabrielle Wilcox who just got the touch in 4.07.68. She remained just ahead of Georgia Pollock who placed second in a super time of 4.08.00
In the 10 year age group Oriana Wheeler excelled winning her section by recording 3.37.32 – a personal best time by over 7 seconds and a Hampshire qualifying base time. The boys in this age group also produced some good personal bests Xander Graham emerging as the victor in 3.56.97. Rory McKenna took the silver medal, whilst William Frankland improved by over 36 seconds to take the bronze.

Orla Rabey and Will Russell both competing in the 14/15 year age group recorded the fastest times of the day in the 100m individual medley event of the Beau Sejour Barracudas’ Specsavers Series. Both recorded lifetime bests of 1.15.19 and 1.04.84 respectively.
The honours in the youngest age group – 9 years went to Gabrielle Wilcox who recorded a great time of 1.45.16 and Oliver Graham who recorded a first time swim of 1.45.84.
Oriana Wheeler and Xander Graham scored maximum points for the 10 year olds, recording 1.29.70 and 1.33.60 respectively, whilst Molly Staples and John Welbourne won the 11 year age group recording 1.25.56 and 1.27.25.
There was a clear winner in the 12/13 age group with Sophie Wilcox taking first place in 1.15.39. The boys title in this age group going to a good swim by Max Gill, again well ahead of the field in 1.16.17. The 16+ titles went to Jonathon Beck and Ellen Morley both posting personal bests of 1.16.67 and 1.08.45.

13 year old Sophie Wilcox and 15 year old William Russell recorded the fastest times of the day in the 200m backstroke event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming club.
In the first event of the season following the long summer break, Sophie recorded 2.35 71 and William 2.21.68.
In the youngest age group (9 years) there were some great swims with Oliver Graham taking gold for the boys in 3.52.06 and Lauren Varley for the girls in 3.39.13.
In the 10 year age group Maddy Russell had a fantastic swim recording 3.12 .72 improving on her personal best by over 16 seconds, whilst Xander Graham was a clear winner for the boys with his time of 3.22.61 also a life time best by 4.1 seconds.

A long standing championship record set by Michelle Bingham back in 1994 was broken by Island Games swimmer Courtney Butcher in the 100m butterfly event of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Specsavers Series. Despite heavy training in preparation for the Games, Courtney produced a great new mark of 1.06.90. A further record came from Island Games captain Thomas Hollingsworth as he improved on his own record touching in 55.71

Fastest times of the day in the 100m event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas were recorded by Island Games swimmers Thomas Hollingsworth and Courtney Butcher – 53.66 and 58.52 respectively.
The youngest age group (9 years) saw Gabrielle Wilcox Oliver Graham take the honours in 1.31.95 and 1.36.81 respectively, while the 10 year olds saw Xander Graham set personal best touching in an impressive time of 1.22.62. The 10 year old girl’s title went to Oriana Wheeler in a personal best by over 2 seconds to post 1.19.69.
