Specsavers Series – 400m Freestyle

Fastest times of the day in the 400m event of the 2017 Specsavers Series came from Ailish Rabey swimming in the 12/13 age group and Toby Fitzgerald (16+) who recorded 5.00.79 and 4.25.90 respectively.

6.39.50 earned Amelie Torode, the gold medal in the 9 years age group.   This was the first time that she had competed in this distance and looked technically very strong.   In second place was Elodie Riley also in an excellent time of 6.46.97.  The winner for the boys was Oliver Russell, who continues to lead the Series in his age group.

In the 10 year age group, there was a really close battle between Breeshy Platt-Ransome and Leanna Guille, with Breeshey just getting the touch in 6.37.29.   The boy’s title went to Conor McKenna in a great time of 5.40.22.

Gabrielle Wilcox – 11 years, pulled out all the stops and took the title from Georgia Pollock in 6.03.20.  The boys in this age group had a good race with Oliver Graham holding on to the lead to finish well clear in 6.16.36 – over 4 seconds better than his entered time.  Jake Williams secured the boys 12/13 age group and Rollo Tiffin the 14/15 age group.

There were some huge personal best times throughout the age groups with the Barracudas really rising to the 16 length challenge.  The Masters were no exception with Sacha Jones, Peter Frankland and David Aslett all winning their respective age groups.  Peter Frankland and David Aslett both setting new record times of 5.13.72 and 5.19.29 respectively.

The age group swimmer showing the greatest improvement was Isabella Aylmer in the 12/13 year age group who improved by over 79 seconds to record 5.59.13!
