Specsavers Series – 200m Backstroke

Island Games swimmers Oliver Nightingale and Sophie de la Mare recorded the fastest times of the day in the 200m backstroke event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming club.

In the first event of the season following the long summer break, Oliver recorded 2.23.30 and Sophie 2.36.46.

In the youngest age group (9 years) there were some great swims with Oliver Russell taking gold for the boys in an excellent time 3.29.11 and Elodie Riley for the girls in 3.19.79

In the 10 year age group Conor McKenna had a fantastic swim recording 3.04.17, whilst Leanna Guille was a clear winner for the girls with her time of 3.23.92 also a life time best by over 5 seconds.

It is not always easy to pace the 200m backstroke, but there were some good times in the 11 year age group with the titles going to Oliver Graham and Gabrielle Wilcox who recorded 3.16.86 and 3.03.53 respectively, both lifetime bests.

Jake Williams placed first in the 12/13 age group recording 2.41.57, with Ailish Rabey winning the girls age group in 2.43.75 – a personal best by over 12 seconds.  Susie Russell was the fastest of the 14/15 year old girls with a time of 2.49.42.  Dylan Teasdale touching first for the boys in 2.46.00 also a big personal best.

Sacha Jones, Peter Frankland and David Aslett won their individual age groups in the Masters section.  With Frankland and Aslett each setting new Masters records.

The swimmer showing the greatest improvement on their entered time was Hannah Le Pelley in the 10 year age group where she recorded 3.50.19 improving by over 42 seconds!
