Specsavers Series – 800/1500m Freestyle

Kristina Neves was back in record breaking form, finishing inside the Championship record of the 800m freestyle Championships staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas swimming club.  Despite being outside of her all-time best Kristina was pleased with her time of 9.07.70.

In the youngest age group – 11 years, Oriana Wheeler competing in this event for the very first time finished in great time 11.59.18, the only swimmer in this age group to break the 12 minute barrier.   Not far behind was Jemima Green who finished in 12.03.19.  Jemima had set the pace and taken the lead from the start only to be over taken by Oriana in the last 75m.

Ailish Rabey took the title in the 12 year age group in a very well paced 11.15.10.  Molly Staples improved on her personal best by over 42 seconds to take second place in 11.31.57.

A 7.15am start did not deter the eager Barracudas distance swimmers from competing in the annual 1500m Championships.

Oliver Nightingale recorded the fastest time of the day in 18.05.88 ahead of Toby Fitzgerald who looked strong touching in 18.17.22.

15 year old Louis Tostevin had a superb swim improving on his entered time by over 55 seconds to win his age group in 18.25.26.  Another huge life time best by over 50 seconds coming from Tom Stapley who won the 14 year age group in 19.54.12.

It was left to Masters Competitor Jean-Paul Duquemin to set the only record of the Championships, finishing ahead of the current holder Marcus O’Neill in a great time of 19.05.20.
