200m Backstroke

13 year old Sophie Wilcox and 15 year old William Russell recorded the fastest times of the day in the 200m backstroke event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming club.

In the first event of the season following the long summer break, Sophie recorded 2.35 71 and William 2.21.68.

In the youngest age group (9 years) there were some great swims with Oliver Graham taking gold for the boys in 3.52.06 and Lauren Varley for the girls in 3.39.13.

In the 10 year age group Maddy Russell had a fantastic swim recording 3.12 .72 improving on her personal best by over 16 seconds, whilst Xander Graham was a clear winner for the boys with his time of 3.22.61 also a life time best by 4.1 seconds.

It is not always easy to pace the 200m backstroke, but there were some good times in the 11 year age group with the titles going to Jake Williams and Pip Gallagher who coincidently recorded an identical time of 3.02.83.

Tom Stapley placed first in the 12/13 age group recording 2.49.56.  Orla Rabey was the fastest of the 14/15 year old girls with another persoanl best by over 6 seconds of 2.44.85.

The 16 and over titles went to Brett Hewlett in a lifetime best of 2.31.28 and Ellen Morley 2.51.72.

Marcus O’Neill, Jo Winberg and Richard Nash won their individual age groups in the Masters section.

The swimmer showing the greatest improvement on their entered time was Minnie Swaisland in the 10 year age group where she recorded 3.45.29 improving by over 45 seconds!
